Discussion on the topic of tolerance and the prohibition of discrimination

On February 23, 2014, NGO Georgian Democracy Initiative held a discussion for journalists about the issues of tolerance and the prohibition of discrimination. The discussion, which was held in the organization’s office, was led by a lawyer of Georgian Democracy Initiative, Giorgi Mshvenieradze, and theologian Beka Mindiashvili.

The discussion was attended by representatives of Web publications, TV stations, and printed media.

The main part of the discussion was devoted to the situation that exists in the country in terms of tolerance; the participants also discussed the legislative base and local and international mechanisms that prohibit discrimination.

A considerable part of the discussion was devoted to the issue of the use of hate speech by the media. The participants discussed specific examples of hate speech.

 

The training was held in the framework of the “Supporting Equality through Education“ project. The project is funded by the US embassy.
