A discussion in Ambrolauri – “Human rights and tolerance”

On June 30, 2015, NGO Georgian Democracy Initiative held a discussion with civic education teachers in Ambrolauri.  

The discussion was led by a member of the board of the Georgian Democracy Initiative, Giorgi Mshvenieradze.  

The topic of the discussion was the problems and challenges related to teaching human rights in schools. The discussion participants talked about the importance and necessity of teaching tolerance, prohibition of discrimination, and principles of equality.   

The meeting involved civic education teachers from public schools of the villages of Likheti, Chrebalo, Khvanchkara, Bugeuli, and Sadmeli of the Ambrolauri Municipality.

The participants were awarded with copies of video lessons on the topics of “Equality and tolerance” and “From dignity to right” which had been produced by the Georgian Democracy Initiative.

In addition, with the help of employees of the Resource Center of the self-government of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, the video lessons were awarded to civic education teachers of 30 public schools from the municipalities of Ambrolauri, Oni, Lentekhi, and Tsageri.

 

The video lessons were produced in the framework of the project “Improving tolerance, religious freedom and human rights in Georgia”, which is being implemented with the funding of the Human Rights Fund of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
