A discussion in Akhaltsikhe – The constitutional state and the culture of tolerance

On April 26, 2015, in the office of the Union of Democrat Meskhs in Akhaltsikhe, NGO Georgian Democracy Initiative held a discussion on topic of “The constitutional state and the culture of tolerance”. 

The discussion involved the students of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University and the Batumi Shota Rustaveli University who are representatives of the Muslim community.

The meeting aimed at raising the young people’s consciousness of the principles of the constitutional state and human rights and freedoms.

The discussion was led by Giorgi Mshvenieradze, a lawyer and a member of the board of the Georgian Democracy Initiative.

The meeting participants discussed the principles of the constitutional state. They also talked about the culture of tolerance, principles of equality, and legal mechanisms for ensuring equality and eradicating discrimination, as well as challenges existing in Georgia and the European and American experience.

 

The discussion was held in the framework of the project “Improving tolerance, religious freedom and human rights in Georgia” which is being implemented with the funding of the Human Rights Fund of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
