Discussion in Gardabani on the topic of prohibition of discrimination

On May 16, 2014, NGO Georgian Democracy Initiative held a discussion in Gardabani for pupils of graduating class on the issues of tolerance and prohibition of discrimination.

The discussion was led by a lawyer of Georgian Democracy Initiative, Giorgi Mshvenieradze, and theologian Beka Mindiashvili.

The discussion participants talked about the culture of tolerance, principles of equality, and legal mechanisms that ensure equality and eliminate discrimination. The discussion also touched the newly adopted Law on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination and the uproar that has surrounded this law.

The aim of the discussion was to contribute to raising the consciousness of youth living in this ethnically diverse district about human rights, tolerance, prohibition of discrimination, and ensuring of equality. The young people expressed interest in what benefits this law will bring to the country and how it will be enforced.

The discussion was held in the framework of the “Support to the Advancement of Human Rights in Georgia” project which is funded by the government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
