Tomorrow, on June 14, civil society representatives will hold a manifestation to protest against acts of interference with religious practice by the local Muslim population in the village of Samtatskaro, Dedoplistskaro District over the last three weeks, and to show their support for tolerance and rights of religious minority.
The GDI approaches the Constitutional Court with a claim against the Minister of Education and Science on behalf of publishers
Five publishing houses in Georgia have approached the Constitutional Court of Georgia with a demand to find the provisions of the Order of the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia on the basis of which the Ministry of Education and Science appropriated the copyrights under their ownership unconstitutional. The Georgian Democratic Initiative (GDI) is going to render legal assistance to the publishers during the proceedings in the Constitutional Court.

We would like to respond to the cases of religious confrontation that have taken place over the last two weeks in the village of Samtatskaro, Dedoplistskaro District, during which the religious freedom of the local Muslim population, which is guaranteed by the Constitution, was grossly violated. It should be noted that the NGOs that have signed this statement were directly observing the processes that developed in Samtatskaro on May 31, and the facts and assessments presented in the present statement are based on the results of our monitoring.

Statement of GDI on the Incident at the Restaurant “La Trouffe”
According to the information from Media, during the night time, on 11 May, 2013 the incident took place at the restaurant “La Trouffe” which grew into the physical violence. According to the information received, two members of Georgian Parliament and former Minister Zaza Gorozia sustained injuries.
