Joint Statement on Imedi TV Company’s Report Concerning Situation in Samtskhe-Javakheti Region
We express our concern over a report about Georgia’s Samtskhe-Javakheti Region, which was aired on Panorama program of Imedi TV company on 23 March. We believe that the report violated a number of provisions of the Code of Conduct for Broadcasters, inter alia, by misleading the audience and artificially dramatizing the situation.

Discussion in Gori
On March 16, 2014, NGO Georgian Democracy Initiative held a discussion for journalists on the topic of tolerance and the prohibition of discrimination in the “Leader” club in Gori.
Training about the prohibition of discrimination and the right to private life
On March 8-9, 2014, NGO Georgian Democracy Initiative held a training for students about the prohibition of discrimination and the right to private life. The participants of the training, which was held in the organization’s office, discussed the mechanisms of protection of the right to private life, international standards and domestic legislation, signs of discrimination, and norms that provide protection from discrimination. The training was led by specialists of human rights law, Giorgi Mshvenieradze and Besarion Bokhashvili.
Discussion on the topic of tolerance and the prohibition of discrimination
On February 23, 2014, NGO Georgian Democracy Initiative held a discussion for journalists about the issues of tolerance and the prohibition of discrimination. The discussion, which was held in the organization’s office, was led by a lawyer of Georgian Democracy Initiative, Giorgi Mshvenieradze, and theologian Beka Mindiashvili.

On February 17, 2014, in the Samtredia Public School No. 1 and, on February 18, in the Zestaphoni Public School No. 2, Georgian Democracy Initiative held discussions about tolerance and the prohibition of discrimination. The discussions were led by a lawyer of Georgian Democracy Initiative (GDI), Giorgi Mshvenieradze, and philosopher Levan Ghambashidze.

On February 15, 2014, in the office of the Young Pedagogues’ Union in Ozurgeti, Georgian Democracy Initiative held a discussion on the issues of the prohibition of discrimination and tolerance. The discussion was led by a lawyer of Georgian Democracy Initiative (GDI), Giorgi Mshvenieradze, and philosopher Levan Ghambashidze.
